Second annual report of Society for Academic Primary Care Dermatology Research Specialist Interest Group (Skin research SIG)

In its short history our SIG has gone from strength-to-strength, promoting collaborative research with the support of the SAPC and our colleagues in the Centre for Evidence Based Dermatology, University of Nottingham. The group currently stands at more than 20 active members.

Achievements by the group and its members to highlight since my last report in April 2012 include:

Matthew Ridd, Miriam Santer, Kim Thomas and Nick Francis presented a workshop at the RCGP ASM on “Caring for the child with eczema and their family: best practice and emerging evidence”, which received very positive feedback
Vishnu Madhok has been awarded the UK DCTN’s first GP fellowship
Kim Thomas has been given a personal chair

In addition to on-going/recent collaborations (CREAM: Nick Francis, Frank Sullivan and Matthew Ridd; POPPIE: Matthew Ridd, Miriam Santer and Parker Magin) the following group members have either collaborated on or been successful with the following bids:

Barrier Enhancement for Eczema Prevention (BEEP): NIHR HTA – Hywel Williams, Jo Chalmers, Kim Thomas, Tracey Sach and Matthew Ridd
Choice Of Moisturiser in Eczema Treatment (COMET): NIHR RfPB – Matthew Ridd and Sarah Purdy.
HI-LIGHT Vitiligo: NIHR HTA – Kim Thomas, Hywel Williams, Tracey Sach & Miriam Santer
Miriam Santer, Nick Francis, Paul Little, Steve Ersser, Amanda Roberts, Beth Stuart and Maria
Chorozoglou and Matthew Ridd have submitted an application to NIHR HTA for a full trial of SPaCE (Supporting Parents and carers of Children with Eczema)

We held our third face-to-face meeting, at the British Association of Dermatologists in London again, in April (copy of programme overleaf) and we plan to meet again during one of the specialist interest group slots at the ASM in Nottingham, July 2013. New members are welcome.
